Luffa is a type of gourd that are commonly grown to be used as a bath or kitchen sponge! They are also edible when picked at about finger length. luffa require a long growing season, it's best to start inside early and to sprout the seeds prior to planting in a pot to later be transferred outside. Ideally you want to trellis them and encourage the luffa to grow straight. Also, once they begin to flower you may have to cut back to encourage female flowers. If you have a high tunnel or greenhouse that is ideal because it will allow for a longer growing season. You harvest once luffa turn brown and dry on the vine.
