The Chickasaw Plum (Prunus angustifolia) is a versatile, native shrub that thrives in various conditions, reaching up to 15 feet tall. In early spring, it showcases clusters of small, fragrant white flowers, followed by a summer bounty of 1/2-inch yellow-to-red drupes. Historically cherished by Native Americans for its fresh and dried fruit, this plant is also vital for biodiversity, serving as a host for numerous butterfly and moth larvae, including the Coral hairstreak and the Eastern tiger swallowtail. Ideal for natural landscapes, it supports wildlife while adding seasonal beauty.
