 These hogs produce more fat and take longer to reach market weight. Lard is known for making flaky pie crusts and biscuits, and is suitable for frying, sautéing, grilling, and baking. Properties: Lard has a high smoke point of 375°F, making it ideal for high-heat cooking. It contains less saturated fat than butter and no trans fats like vegetable shortening.
