Dandy Beef Company

Dandy Beef Company is a freezer beef company that was founded in 2018 by Eric and Steffany Van Fleet, with their sons, Branson and Nathan. We are a branch of the long-established Green Valley Farms Polled Herefords. We wanted to offer others the chance to enjoy quality, Hereford beef that is locally raised using humane and natural practices. How did we get our name? When Steffany’s parents David and Candy Miller purchased a farm near Fulda, OH, they combined their first names and called the farm Da-ndy Acres. Because it is on this farm that our freezer beef operation is based, we decided to honor the history of the farm and call ourselves Dandy Beef Company. Because of our history of raising Hereford cattle, we have kept that breed as the exclusive source of the steers that we raise. Many of them are raised on our farm in Noble County and some are purchased after weaning from other reputable Hereford breeders. Hereford cattle are docile and feed-efficient, which makes them ideal for how we raise them. Our steers are kept on pasture year-round. There aren't any feedlots on the farm, and we don't plan to install any of them. We do feed our steers grain each day from when they arrive until they are harvested. When the grass stops growing during the winter, we feed hay. This production method allows us to get the best of both worlds, so to speak, with regard to management systems. The steers aren’t standing around in a dirty lot. They are out on pasture, eating the grass for which their digestive systems are designed. The daily grain ensures that there is just enough external fat and marbling for the beef to remain flavorful. Repeat customers and positive feedback about the beef tell us that our system works.
